Welcome to our parish website!

St Aidan’s is the Catholic Parish Church for the communities of: Ashington, Bothal, Cresswell, Ellington, Linton, Lynemouth, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, North Seaton, North Seaton Colliery, Widdrington (South of the railway line) and Woodhorn.

St Aidan’s Church was solemnly opened in 1905 by the Abbot of Douai Abbey. Originally the parish was looked after by Monks from Douai, until it was given to the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle in 1948.

My hope is that you will find a warm welcome in St Aidan’s. There have been many who have prayed and worshipped in this building for over one hundred years, and it continues to be a place of prayer and worship to this day with many people gathering for both Sunday and Weekday Mass.

I hope you enjoy browsing our website and the things we have to offer you. Hopefully one day you might join us.
With every blessing.
